Balkan mayors join hands Mayors of 11 municipalities from the West Stara Planina Region signed a letter of intent on July 8 with the aim of boosting cooperation for the improvement of the environment, protection of natural resources and cultural heritage and promotion of sustainable development. The mayors represented municipalities encompassing some 200,000 inhabitants from the border region of Bulgaria and Serbia and Montenegro. The mayoral meeting came under the Regional Environmental Reconstruction Programme for South Eastern Europe (REReP) and was supported by Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).
