Third study tour
(June 21-25, 2004 in Warsaw and Lublin Voivodship, Poland)
 

 

The third BERCEN study tour focused on Environmental Permitting and Inspection in Practice. Seven environmental inspectors from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, FYR Macedonia, and Serbia and Montenegro visited Warsaw and Lublin Voivodship on June 21-25, 2004. The study tour was organised in cooperation with the Chief Inspectorate for Environmental Protection in Poland and funded by the European Commission assistance programme, CARDS see the list of participants (MS-Word file). 

The participants visited the Chief Inspectorate for Environmental Protection in Poland, as well as the Voivodship Inspectorate for Environmental Protection and its laboratory in Lublin.

Topics covered during the study tour included (see the agenda as an MS-Word file):

  • environmental protection system;
  • environmental permitting system;
  • implementation of the IPPC Directive;
  • realisation of inspection tasks according to European Union law;
  • cross-border movement of waste; and
  • monitoring (and related topics).

Accompanied by the responsible persons from the Voivodship Inspectorate and company representatives, the participants visited the following installations:

  • Hajdow sewage treatment plant and a thermoelectric power station in Lublin;
  • a cement plant in Chelm;
  • a sugar plant in Krasnystaw; and
  • a chemical plant in Pulawy.

The participants considered the study tour successful (see the evaluation results as an MS-Excel file).
