The general objective of this grant programme was to strengthen the initial commitment of cities, the winners of the 1999 and 2000 editions of the City Towards EU Compliance Award, towards EU accession. Specific objectives included: to assist in the implementation of projects that address issues related to environmental aspects of EU accession; and to raise public awareness and improve access to environmental information. There were 14 proposals (110 Kbyte PDF file) selected dealing with priority issues of the involved countries such as: medical and industrial waste management, sustainable transport issues, public awareness on water and air pollution, as well and public access to information and Local Agenda 21.
