The project is focused on raising the awareness of the general public on surface water pollution from applying fertilisers in agriculture, changing consumer behaviour and supporting public involvement in decision-making processes in water management.
The project concerns the promotion of phosphate-free detergents and best practices in waste management at the local (municipality) level. The project will be developed in cooperation with the regional authority of Zlinsky district.
The main components (activities) of the project are:

a seminar on water and waste management for municipality representatives, water management experts, environmentalists, etc.;

information campaign on using washing powders; and
- participation of local schools in “home” ecology.

The project will deal with the use of agricultural technologies reducing sources of pollution, underground and surface water, and the promotion of alternative methods eliminating nutrients and toxic substances.
The main objective is to use and promote biotechnology to contribute to the reduction of nutrients in surface water and sediments. The biological balance in the water could be restored. The project involves the following steps:
- mapping natural water systems, ponds, river streams and wetlands, collecting information about the pollution found there;
- applying bio-preparations into selected water ponds; and
- conducting an information campaign and inviting public participation into the use of biotechnology and project outputs.
