| The Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Partnership
(REEEP) aims to foster international collaboration in order to accelerate
the growth of markets in modern renewables and energy efficiency,
with the aim of lowering costs and facilitating the removal of other
policy, technological, market and regulatory barriers. The
REEEP workshop for Central and Eastern Europe held in Szentendre,
Hungary, was one of a series of regional sessions being organised
throughout the world this summer in Nairobi (for East Africa), Accra
(West Africa), Beijing (China), Manila (Southeast Asia), Johannesburg
(South Africa), New Delhi (South Asia), Brasilia (Latin America)
and Campos de Jordao (Latin America).
The meeting in Hungary was held under the auspices
of the Regional Environmental Center for Central and Eastern Europe
(REC) at its head office in Szentendre on July 3-4, 2003. Members
of the business sector and civil society joined ministerial representatives
and other high-ranking governmental officials from Bulgaria, Croatia,
the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Poland,
Romania and Slovakia.
