This side event aims to promote the rapid implementation of
the SEA Protocol by sharing the experience gained in building capacity for
carrying out strategic environmental assessments (SEA) in Central and
Eastern Europe. Participants will discuss the national strategies for SEA
capacity-building and review possibilities for cooperation and networking
during the implementation of the SEA Protocol.
The side event follows on previous activities of the
Regional Environmental Center for Central and Eastern Europe (REC) organised within the negotiations on the SEA Protocol. The side event will
be held in partnership with the United Nations Economic Commission for
Europe (UN/ECE) Secretariat to the Espoo Convention,
UNDP/RBEC and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) Economic and Trade Branch.
All delegations to the conference from Central and Eastern
Europe, the Caucuses and Central Asia are kindly invited to attend the side
event.
