Discussion theme

The Regional Environmental Center for Central and Eastern Europe (REC) is an independent, non-advocacy, not-for-profit international organisation that has been providing timely response to special conditions in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) in a flexible and innovative way.

With the environment as its focus, it encourages cooperation among non-governmental organisations, governments, businesses and other environmental stakeholders, by supporting the free exchange of information and promoting public participation in environmental decision-making.

Within the Rio+10 process, the role of the REC is to provide important insight and lessons learned in the CEE region for other countries, regions and organisations wishing to focus on improving the environment and establishing conditions appropriate to sustainable development.
